Sci-fi colonies, stations, and sectors
Colonies and stations
Science fiction maps label orbital hubs (Helix Station), rim colonies (Nova Prime), and mining sectors. Suffixes like port, ring, and sector signal infrastructure, not medieval farms.
Alien readability
Alien settlements can use harsher consonant clusters with tone filter; human colonies often stay pronounceable for audio logs and captain’s reports.
Regions of space
Use region mode for nebulae, belts, and frontier marches—Voidreach, Sigma Expanse—reserving settlement mode for inhabited sites.
Franchise-safe
Famous franchise worlds are blocked. Your sector map should feel operatic without borrowing Coruscant or Tatooine.
Futuristic place names for sector maps
Engineered roots plus infrastructure suffixes sell scale. A “colony” is new; a “station” orbits; a “hub” routes trade.
- Keep captain’s log pronunciation in mind—crews say these aloud.
- Pair one-word ports with two-word regions for hierarchy.
- Grim tone suits war fronts; melodic suits luxury rim resorts.
